Amiga Power used to do a series called Kangaroo Court in which they would take a single Annoying Thing about games, and proscribe a horrible punishment for designers who used them. A particular favourite was the Slippy Slidy Ice World, then often a feature of platform games which had ’snow’ levels with slippery platforms.

My own most annoying moment is when you get into a situation in a game in which the only way to progress is to take damage or lose a life. Good game designers shouldn’t have to cheat to make their game challenging.

Jennifer

I thought that said “David Bowie hair turned up to ELVEN.” Same thing, I suppose.
