Mr. Brian Murphy over at The Silver Key just dropped me a line, informing me that my blog has been nominated for a Superior Scribbler Award. I believe I’ve seen these little guys on a few other blogs before, but I was never really sure what they stood for. Now… I know. This is my ticket to the blogging elite, ladies and gentlemen. It may not be as prestigious as winning a Peabody Award, but the little award image will still look damn good on the mantle (or, in the sidebar of this blog, whichever you prefer).

Actually, the award is just a nice pat on the back sort of thing originally created by a high school journalism teacher, where the recipient shares on his or her blog where the award came from and then nominates five blogs they feel are deserving of the honor, and so on and so forth. Sounds pretty neat to me. This is what Brian had to say about my blog:

Matthew Conway’s blog is a wonderfully eclectic mix of posts about computer games, role-playing games, horror films, Dr. Who, and the most exhaustive, in-depth recap of James Bond films I’ve ever seen in one place. I find myself nodding quite a bit when reading his posts. Another regular stop of mine.

Wow, I really appreciate the ‘wonderfully eclectic’ compliment. Makes me blush, it does. In a manly sort of way.

So, all that’s left is for me to hand this baby out to five more blogs. Here goes!

Sham’s Grog ‘n Blog – If he doesn’t already have one or three. In between posting videos of old Ramones tunes, telling his life story, and rigging Blog-O-Bet polls so that D4’s come out dead last, Sham very occasionally talks about the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Temple of Doom – I just recently started reading this one. The author is an old-school video game player who also contributes to the wonderful Sega-16 website. A high quality blog to read through if you’re into what the nerds these days call ‘retro gaming‘.

Monsters and Manuals – I’m gonna call it right now. With all apologies to James at the infinitely readable Grognardia, THIS is the best RPG blog on the net (plus Brian already gave Grognardia a SS Award). Well written and straight from the heart, M&M has a good mix of games outside of D&D being discussed, in addition to a number of downright barmy ideas/monsters/scenarios/etc that one can’t help but admire. Perhaps the only blogger I’ve ever seen that actually posts thoughtful photo dumps too (with more apologies to all the guys who post babes in chainmail bikinis every other day).

Action Typist – I’ll be perfectly honest, there are some days when I have no flippin’ clue what Mr. Robo, author of Action Typist, is talking about (perhaps that’s part of the charm?). But… he does have a great taste in film and books, and we do share a haphazard randomness when it comes to blogging content. If you’re into politics, G.I. Joe and offbeat humor, you gotta give this blog a read.

Critically Speaking – And I thought I was eclectic! This guy… this guy is crazy! He talks about Canadian politics, ugly NHL jerseys, comic books, AND he writes reviews of movies that barely anyone reads. A man for all seasons, indeed. But seriously, Andy is one of the most talented, cerebral writers I’ve ever known, and has at times been an inspiration for me to either keep going with my writing or to push myself to become a better wordsmith overall (the later has yet to happen, unfortunately). I would owe him a great debt if he didn’t balance things out by stealing all of my keen ideas. Jerk.

(If you’re one of the above blogs and you wish to accept the award, here are the rules.)

  • Each Superior Scribbler must in turn pass The Award on to 5 most-deserving Bloggy Friends.
  • Each Superior Scribbler must link to the author & the name of the blog from whom he/she has received The Award.
  • Each Superior Scribbler must display The Award on his/her blog, and link to this post, which explains The Award.
  • Each Blogger who wins The Superior Scribbler Award must visit this post and add his/her name to the Mr. Linky List (scroll down). That way, we’ll be able to keep up-to-date on everyone who receives This Prestigious Honor!
  • Each Superior Scribbler must post these rules on his/her blog.
